At Hill, our Admission Process is primarily educational. Our goal is to ensure that we clearly articulate our mission, philosophy, and program and we want to hear from you what you value in your child’s education. Ultimately, in partnership, we decide if Hill is the right place for your child and your family.

A strong community is central to Hill School’s philosophy, mission, and program. Through admissions, the school seeks to create a community that values students with a range of interests and abilities and a variety of cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds. The school seeks students of average to exceptional academic aptitude who are both able to benefit from and contribute to the school’s programs and community. The school strives to include sibling and alumni applicants as well as new families.

Students are selected for admission to the school on the basis of academic readiness, developmental maturity, and personal strengths. We also consider the fit of the applicant in the class and overall student body, and the philosophical alignment between the family and the school.

The Admission Process involves four distinct steps:

Inquiry
Complete the online inquiry form so that we can begin the process of getting to know one another.

Prospective Parent Visit
Prospective parents meet with Treavor Lord, Head of School, and Kelly Johnson, Director of Enrollment. These sessions are scheduled on an individual basis and on a mutually agreed upon date and time.

Application
If, after visiting Hill, you feel that this would be a good place for your child to learn and grow you will complete the application. A link to the application will be sent to you from Kelly Johnson via our BigSIS/Ravenna admissions portal. There is an application fee of $50.

Visit Day or Screening
All Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten applicants participate in a developmental screening with Hill’s counselor Mrs. Kasia Daum. Screenings are typically scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday mornings beginning in January.

All First to Eighth Grade applicants are invited to spend an entire school day at Hill in their current grade level. Additionally, applicants may be invited back to Hill for a more formal academic review, ERB testing, writing samples, etc. Transcripts from an applicant’s current school are also required.

Hill School operates on a rolling admission basis. All applications received by February will be included in the first round of admission decisions which are communicated on the first Friday in March. All applications received after the first round will be reviewed on an individual basis.
