Sportsmanship and A Sense of Fair Play

Athletics and physical education are important parts of a Hill School education. We teach the basic skills and rules for a variety of sports and encourage each individual to give his or her best effort. Sportsmanship, a sense of fair play, development of confidence, teamwork, personal best, and participation by every child are other points of emphasis. For older children, interscholastic competition is held in soccer, volleyball, cross country, basketball, and lacrosse. Students also participate in gymnastics and track and field. For students in grades JK-3, Hill emphasizes fine and gross motor skills, eye-hand/eye-foot coordination, following directions, teamwork, and personal best.

The athletic program was a contributing factor in the decision to send our children to Hill, but not for the reason you might expect. We love that the athletic program is a part of the curriculum. This gives every child the opportunity to participate in sports they may have otherwise never considered – field hockey, gymnastics, even track and field. The amazing coaching staff and vast campus provides the perfect atmosphere for children to experiment in a familiar setting with coaches they know.
